Parade of Homes 2024

This two-bedroom, one-bathroom home is the 237th built by Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County and the 17th in our Osage Place Neighborhood. Since 1988, we have housed over 863 individuals, including more than 493 children, averaging 8-10 homes built per year.

This single-level home is sponsored by our Women+ Build annual fundraiser and volunteer opportunity, where hundreds of women from all walks of life come together to build two homes for Monroe County residents in need of safe and affordable housing. Designed and built with efficiency in mind, the home is Energy Star certified for heating and cooling and features Energy Star Whirlpool appliances. The home is equipped with WaterSense rated plumbing fixtures and LED lighting. A rooftop solar panel system will be installed through a generous grant from the City of Bloomington.

At Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County we build strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter – the only thing we give away is an opportunity. Our mission is to expand affordable housing opportunities by partnering with people in our community. Our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Our work in Monroe County is urgent due to rising housing costs. To afford a median-priced home at $318,500, a household needs an income of $102,500, which is 58% higher than the county’s median household income of $65,043.

All who qualify for the Habitat program do so based on the same three criteria: need for housing, ability to pay, willingness to partner. Each adult member living in a Habitat home must contribute 250 hours of volunteering, called sweat equity, prior to closing on their house.

Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, our houses are sold to future homeowners and financed with affordable loans. As the homeowners pay back their affordable mortgage, the funds are reinvested in our operations in order to offer future families an opportunity for homeownership.
